Maybe you could deputize some of us to make and eat your genius creations and report back to you until you make the full and total recovery that you will bloody well make unless you want me to kill myself and haunt your toilets for all eternity.

I just hope you are okay and you get the medical care you need and deserve. Terrible food combinations aren't going anywhere. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Be easy.

So sorry to hear this! Wishing you the best!! You've got amazing humor and writing chops-- if you need to pivot from food for a bit, I'm confident I'll still want to read anything from ya.

We love you, Mr. Ree. Get well soon. In the immortal words of John Belushi in Animal House, "My advice to you: Start drinking."

Massive big huge love across the etherverse to you (and Davida), illness is scary, particularly these days. Though you're absolutely correct: it's EXACTLY the kind of super-ironic funny-not-funny kinda way things happen to good and interesting people.

As someone who is on week 49 of long covid - STILL with no formal diagnosis or medical support (2 blood tests. That's the whole thing so far) - I can totally feel your frustration. And it's the worst most awful advice but it's the only thing that works: do as much as you feel you can and don't let yourself be pressured to do more.

BLARG. Also: be childish. A lot. Scary illness is quite a grown-up thing to deal with, and from grown-up it's but a short hop to unentertainingly demoralised and melancholic. So be childish as much as you can.

I will endeavour to cook my own bad food for you and dump it uncomfortably on your twitter (if you have one? I'm so, so bad at social media) in a don't-cross-the-streams sort of reversal of information flow. Because that, obviously, will help enormously with your Mystery Ailment Situation.

In the meantime, breathe. Play. Sleep. Limit your time to think about this and feel what you need to feel (I do 30 minutes a day) and be strict with keeping it out of your mind the rest of the time.

So much love to you,

Sock x
